A new way of thinking
Calvin told me that the welfare specialist talked to the Stake Leaders last night and we both had some new thoughts from it. Rich people know things that average people don't, average people know things that poor and rich people don't know, and poor people know things that either of the others know. So when rich people, like the ones that run Congress, try to give homes to poor people, the rich people expect the poor people to know what the rich people know, but they don't. They don't know what they can and can't afford, they don't know what to do to be able to afford it. They don't know how to keep the house or keep it up. They just haven't been taught rich people knowledge. The rich people in Congress think they are doing something so good and so noble, and when it crashes they don't understand why. I plan on writing some paper letters to a few people in Congress. Maybe if they can understand what went wrong, maybe they can fix it. Instead of just ranting and raving at them, maybe they just were trying and did it the wrong way. There is a story of refugees coming to America and nearly starving to death cause they were given canned food and a can opener, but no one ever showed them there was food in the cans or how to use a can opener. Maybe it is a little bit like that?

It was a very inspiring and informational meeting. A bit overwhelming, but then that's nothing new. :) We also learned that the poor communicate differently than the middle class or rich so we need to make sure they understand us and we understand them.
I find this very interesting, I was wondering when we were being pre-approved for a house they approved us for an amount that was nearly twice (payment-wise) what we could afford. Didn't make sense. I guess maybe the banks can make money double and I can't...
Guess this puts it into a different light tho, although it still doesn't make sense to me why borrowing more money to pay off debt makes sense to them... I've never heard a financial planner talking to a family in dire financial straits due to credit use tell them to borrow more. Usually they tell them to batten down the hatches and pay off the debt.
This is so true!
Funny this should come up about mortgages because I am having problems with mine. I bought a house in July they tell us what our payment will be (property tax, house insurance and everything else we need so we can make sure we can afford it) now we get a bill from our mortgage company stating our payment will go up starting next month of almost $500.00!! Tax assessor is stating it is some special tax in this area. Well if we had know that UP FRONT we wouldn't have bought in this area. Lack of communication is the problem and no one cares to help us get it fixed. Not even sure we can. I guess I could just not eat and be able to afford the house. Sigh...
I LOVE THIS. Totally and absolutely agree with every word. I have been thinking this for a long time but you put it all into words.
